Hi, I’m Tara PK, also known as The Scholarship Whisperer.

I help parents of college-bound students figure out how to pay for college without blowing up their finances in the process.

Because let’s be honest, the college process is stressful enough. Add scholarships, financial aid, award letters, borrowing decisions, and a whole lot of bad advice floating around the internet, and it turns into a mess fast.

That’s where I come in.

Why I do this

I spent 33 years working in college financial aid offices, from entry-level counselor to director of financial aid, and later as a consultant helping colleges fix problems in their financial aid operations.

I’ve worked in more than 20 colleges and universities across the country. Public. Private. Community colleges. Graduate schools. Nonprofit schools. For-profit schools. I’ve seen it all.

And after all those years, one thing became painfully clear:

Families are making huge college money decisions without reliable expert information.

I saw students buried in debt before they even had a chance to start their adult lives.
I saw parents borrowing money they were never going to be able to pay back.
I saw families choosing colleges based on emotion, pressure, and bad advice instead of actual numbers.

That bothered me. A lot.

Because the people who need this information most are often the same people who cannot afford to pay some consultant thousands of dollars just to explain it to them.

So I left that world and built Scholarship Whisperer.

What makes me different

I’m not a financial planner who took a quick course and added “college planning” to a website bio.

I’m not a recent grad teaching scholarships based on one personal story.

And I’m not here to sell parents panic in a prettier font.

I’m a former financial aid director with decades of hands-on experience. I know how colleges award money. I know how families get tripped up. And I know how to explain complicated stuff in a way real people can actually understand.

That’s my thing.

I make the complicated parts of paying for college make sense, so parents can make smarter decisions with a lot less chaos.

I’m casual, conversational, and sometimes a little snarky. I like telling the truth, especially when the truth can save a family a pile of money and regret.

I’m also a traveler, animal rescuer, horse person, RV lover, and someone who has lived enough life to know that people do not need more pressure. They need better information.
